What it's for

NU-QUAT is a one-step disinfectant cleaner. You dilute it at 2 fl oz per gallon, apply it, and leave the surface wet for the contact time. It is registered as a virucide, fungicide and bactericide for hard, nonporous, inanimate surfaces, and it also works as a mildewstat. The reason facilities standardize on it is the pH: at 7.4 to 8.4 it is close to neutral, so it does not attack finished floors, sealed surfaces and soft metals the way a high-alkaline or acidic disinfectant does.

How to use it

Dwell time — the number that matters
10 minutes

The surface has to stay visibly wet for the full contact time. If it dries early, apply more solution and restart the clock. HIV-1 is 4 minutes at room temperature (68-77 F).

Dilution
2 fl oz/gal (1:64; 600 ppm active quat)

The only dilution on the label. Covers disinfecting, cleaning, deodorizing, mold/mildew control and vehicle disinfection. The label states no separate sanitizing dilution and no separate heavy-soil dilution.

Directions

1. Pre-clean heavily soiled surfaces before disinfecting.

2. Dilute 2 fl oz of concentrate to 1 gallon with potable (drinking) water.

3. Apply with a mop, sponge, cloth, coarse spray, or by soaking/immersion.

4. Keep the surface wet for 10 minutes (4 minutes for HIV-1).

5. Remove excess liquid; allow the surface to air dry.

6. For mold and mildew, repeat weekly or when growth reappears.

✓ Safe on
Glass and glazed porcelain Rubber Aluminum and copper Stainless steel Plastics: polyethylene, polypropylene, vinyl, ABS
△ What not to use it on
  • Terminal sterilization of critical or semi-critical medical devices that enter the body or bloodstream
  • Humans or animals
  • Porous surfaces — the label claims cover hard, nonporous, inanimate surfaces only
  • Soap or any other product — label: "Do not use in combination with soap or any other product." Soap deactivates the quat; rinse mop buckets before mixing.
  • Strong acids (listed as incompatible on the SDS)

EXTRA-SORB

Questions directors ask

NU-QUAT is registered as a virucide, fungicide and bactericide for hard, nonporous surfaces. Most licensing bodies want a registered disinfectant used at label dilution with the label contact time observed. Keep the label and SDS on site. Confirm your specific state's required contact time and any food-contact restrictions, because this label carries no food-contact sanitizing directions.
