What it's for

The problem with a liquid spill is that a mop moves it around. EXTRA-SORB works the other way: you shake the powder over the spill, wait two minutes, and the liquid is locked into a solid gel. Then it is a sweeping job, not a mopping job. The tech data sheet lists it for schools, hospitals, transportation (buses, trains, cruise ships), restaurants and ambulance services. It also carries a fragrance — the product page describes "Odor neutralizing chemicals suppress smells while emitting a pleasant floral aroma," which matters when the spill is in a hallway full of people.

Watch Greg use it
EXTRA-SORB
In childcare

Vomit and accidents in classrooms and nap areas Spills in eating areas where a mop would spread the mess

In schools

Hallway and cafeteria sick calls, where a custodian needs the floor usable fast Bus incidents — the tech sheet names transportation specifically

In gyms & churches

Sick incidents in carpeted areas and on gym floors

In offices & restaurants

Dining room accidents in front of other guests Beverage and liquid spills that need to be contained before they run

NOTE EXTRA-SORB is an absorbent, not a disinfectant or sanitizer. It contains and removes the spill; it does not kill anything. Disinfect the surface separately after the gelled material has been swept up.

How to use it

Dwell time — the number that matters
2 minutes

The tech data sheet says "Allow 2 minutes for product to absorb, then pick-up and dispose." Do not start sweeping early — if the gel has not formed you will smear the spill.

Directions

1. "Sprinkle contents evenly on spill."

2. "Close container."

3. "Allow 2 minutes for EXTRA-SORB to absorb moisture."

4. "Sweep up and dispose in accordance with any applicable regulations."

5. Dry the surface. The tech data sheet warns: "EXTRA-SORB may make surfaces slippery after use. Be sure to dry surfaces thoroughly."

△ What not to use it on
  • Do not leave the residue on the floor. "EXTRA-SORB may make surfaces slippery after use. Be sure to dry surfaces thoroughly." (Tech data sheet)
  • Avoid contact with oxidizing agents. (SDS Section 7)
  • "Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product." (SDS Section 7)
  • Solvent-based spills — the tech data sheet lists the product as "Insoluble (forms a gel)" in water and insoluble in mineral spirits; performance on solvent spills is not stated in any source.

Works with

NU-QUAT concentrate container on a counter in a childcare classroom, with a mop bucket and a spray bottle nearby
NU-QUAT

EXTRA-SORB removes the spill but kills nothing. Nu-Quat is the neutral-pH disinfectant cleaner you use on the floor afterward, at one dilution staff can remember.

SHA-BRZ one-quart spray bottle on a carpeted floor beside an upholstered chair in a locker room
SHA-BRZ

When the spill lands on carpet, upholstery or bedding, Sha-Brz is the water-based deodorant for the fabric that the powder cannot fully treat.

DYNASTY MICRO BC one-quart bottle on a tiled restroom floor next to a floor drain
DYNASTY MICRO BC

For a recurring problem spot, the live-bacteria odor controllant digests the fats, starches and proteins left behind, so the smell does not come back a day later.

Questions directors ask

Partly. It handles the containment and removal step. Inspectors generally also want a disinfection step on the surface afterward, and EXTRA-SORB carries no kill claims — the SDS confirms the product is "Not classified" and it has no registration. Pair it with a registered disinfectant. The exact wording of your state's requirement is not something any Share document addresses.
