ORION
High-lather hand dishwashing liquid for baked-on grease.
What it's for
This is the sink detergent. Share's description: "ORION hand dishwashing liquid is your best choice for washing away dirt and food particles from a variety of dining and food processing equipment." It runs at a quarter ounce per gallon for normal dishes and goes up to an ounce per gallon when you hit greasy pots and burned-on food. Two things make it worth carrying over a retail brand. It carries NSF Registration No. 138261 in category A1, which is the registration a health inspector looks for in a food-processing area. And it "Easily creates suds in both hard and soft water," which is the usual reason a cheap detergent stops working in a building with hard water. The tech data sheet names the intended applications directly: schools, day cares, nursing homes, group homes, bakeries, churches, resorts and bed & breakfasts, and taverns.
Bottle, dish and utensil washing in the kitchen sink Manual washing of food-service equipment
Cafeteria pot sinks and three-compartment sinks Baked-on sheet pans and steam table pans
Kitchen and fellowship-hall dish sinks used intermittently
Greasy pots and pans, and stubborn burned-on food General dining and food-processing equipment
How to use it
Normal dishwashing — "Use about 1/4 ounce of ORION per gallon of hot water." (Tech data sheet and label)
"Greasy pots and pans and stubborn burned on foods may require 1/2 to 1 ounce per gallon of hot water." (Tech data sheet)
"Greasy pots and pans may require 1 ounce per gallon of hot water." (Label)
1. Fill the sink with hot water.
2. Add about 1/4 oz of ORION per gallon of water.
3. For greasy pots, pans and burned-on food, increase to 1/2 – 1 oz per gallon.
4. Wash. The product is stated to "quickly soften and remove heavy grease and stubborn dried on food."
5. Rinse and sanitize as your local food code requires. A rinse instruction is not printed in the Share directions — see data gaps.
No source states a soak or dwell time. For baked-on food the label relies on the higher use rate rather than a stated soak period.
- "For industrial and commercial use only." (Label)
- "Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing." (SDS Section 7)
- "Do not breathe mist, spray." (Label precautionary statements)
